If you don’t take care of the moisture before you begin the remodeling, you’ll end up with mold and mildew problems later. Therefore, the first step is to reduce the moisture in your basement.

  • This can be done by patching holes and cracks in the foundation and using waterproofing products to seal the walls and floor.
  • Basement waterproofing membrane is a sealant that is used on the outside of the basement walls to prevent the moisture from seeping in by forming a barrier.
Older homes may not have this extra protection.

Basement Ideas Regarding The CeilingBasement Ideas

You will be very happy with designing your basement into an area that suits you. Your home is your domain, so you should make the best use of every bit of the space, including the basement.

There are many different ways for you to take advantage of the extra space your basement provides. It can become any room that you want it be and all it takes is some remodeling and some new decor. These are just a few of the basement ideas for remodeling available that can be used to help you get started. There are many more and your options are only limited by your imagination.

Using Your Basement Walls

Using the walls is one of the best basement design ideas you should consider.

  • You might have stacks of books on tables, on the floor against the walls, and even things in corners on the floor. When you bring everything up off of the floor and organize it on the walls, the room will look substantially bigger. Shelving is very helpful for this.
  • Go through things and get rid of what you don’t need. If you are a pack-rat it may be time to get rid of some of the junk you have lying around. You can donate it to people who really need it or even pack it neatly in containers and put it out in the shed if you don’t want to put it on a shelf.
  • Putting shelves on the walls make a big difference. When rooms are small, you have to take advantage of every bit of space the room has, including the walls. If you aren’t a big fan of shelves, choose some that are decorative or subtle.

Basement Interior Design

Basement interior design also includes the furniture you use in the room.

  • If the room seems extremely small because you have oversized loveseats and couches, it may be time to get some new furniture.
  • Designers often recommend large furniture for an oversized room and small furniture for small rooms. If you buy a smaller couch, you will see additional space in the room and it will appear to be much larger than before.
  • Look through basement designs in magazines, basement book remodeling and in software packages and you will see how designers use furniture in rooms based on the size of the area they are working with.
  • Too much furniture looks cluttered and even messy. You might have too many tables, oversized couches, and other items that are unnecessary making the room appear to be smaller than it is.

You’ve got lots of great ideas here. I’ve also used tin ceiling tiles in basements & other areas where water and/or moisture is a concern. They won’t get damaged like drywall and can be popped off to get to everything above them.
